Our mission

Home extensions and renovations are major investments, yet most homeowners have no way to judge whether a quote is fully scoped, fairly priced, or missing something that will cost them later. We are changing that with a clear, independent read of the quote itself: what it covers, what it leaves out, and how the total compares with a modelled range of what projects like yours cost.

Our goal is simple: help homeowners make informed decisions by showing them what their quote does and does not include, whether the price sits in the usual band, and which questions to ask before signing a contract.

How it works

Upload the quote

A PDF, a photo or a Word document, whatever your builder sent. No signup to start, and your first project is checked free.

We read it

Every line, for what the quote covers and what it leaves out. The total is set against a modelled cost range for the job and your region, and building regulation points are flagged. It usually takes a few minutes, and the verdict is free.

Compare and decide

Add up to six quotes for the same job. £10 unlocks the full report and the comparison: every quote on the same basis, and the questions to ask each builder.

Regional labour-rate factors, applied by area

England's Approved Documents and other published regulations

Published VAT rules

Scope checklists for each job type, written by us

Anonymised figures from quotes checked here, kept by postcode district only

The price benchmark is a modelled range for the whole job, by type, size, specification and region. It is not a database of real quotes near you, and it is not BCIS or Spon's data. As more checks are run, the anonymised pool grows and we can test the model against it.

Better ranges, together

As homeowners share what they paid, we can test the modelled ranges against real outcomes. When you complete your project, consider contributing:

Your final costs compared to the original quotes
Which procurement route you chose (a builder, or direct trades)
What you would do differently next time

All contributions are anonymised. We keep aggregated regional figures, never your name, address or contact details unless you explicitly provide them.

Built with trust

Your data, held by named providers

The database is hosted by Render in Frankfurt and your documents by Cloudflare R2, both reached over encrypted connections. Never sold and never shared with builders. The single-trade calculators run entirely in your browser.

Independent analysis

We do not sell leads to builders, and no builder pays to appear here.

MyBuildAlly was founded by a homeowner who went through the stress of managing a major build project first-hand. After receiving wildly different quotes with no way to compare them fairly, the idea was born: give every homeowner an independent read on a quote before they sign it.

We bring an engineering habit to building cost analysis, because your biggest investment deserves better than guesswork. Our background spans avionics engineering, cyber security and product development, so we take accuracy, privacy and your trust seriously.
